Capitalism in Question
The Academy of Management's vision statement says that they aim "to inspire and enable a better world through our scholarship and teaching about management and organizations."
The description of the 2013 AOM Annual Meeting theme furthermore states that: "The recent economic and financial crises, austerity, and unemployment, and the emergence of many economic, social, and environmental protest movements around the world have put back on the agenda some big questions about this vision: What kind of economic system would this better world be built on? Would it be a capitalist one? If so, what kind of capitalism? If not, what are the alternatives?"
Our sister organization, the Humanistic Management Network and the Humanistic Management Center were very happy to see these questions emerging so strongly within the Academy of Management as these are some of the questions we are focused on.
The 2013 Annual Meeting took place from the 9th to the 13th August in Orlando, Florida and we are proud to have had a whole range of contributions accepted for presentation by the wider humanistic management community at this world leading scholarly management conference.
