At this annual meeting of the Society for Business Ethics, Claus Dierksmeier organized a panel on "New Avenues in Virtue Ethics", where he presented together with Dr. Gohl (Global Ethic Institute, Germany) and Prof. Koehn (St. Thomas University, USA). The panel was very well attended and received much approval for its attempt to profile authors that are not traditionally counted among the heroes of virtue ethics (such as Plato / Prof. Koehn, Kant / Prof. Dierksmeier, and Dewey / Dr. Gohl).
Particular emphasis was placed on the contribution of said authors to current questions of business ethics in the ambit of Leadership and Stakeholder Management. Essentially it was the objective of the panel to harmonize the tension between duty-oriented ethics (deontology) and virtue ethics (teleology) through integrative models that draw on both traditions. This, in the eyes of the audience, clearly succeeded.
