Schweizer Dialog was launched out of the University of St Gallen and was founded in the aftermath of the financial crisis of 2007 with a mandate to engage in a broad based public dialogue on the roles and responsibilities of the private sector in Switzerland.
Ernst von Kimakowitz was pleased when the opportunity arose to contribute an article on stakeholder dialogues for it has a dual relevance in these specific circumstances. On one hand dialogical engagements are pivotal for business organizations to assume responsibilities and consequently any work on the societal role of private sector activities strongly benefits from a clear positioning regarding dialogical engagements. On the other hand it represented the opportunity to engage in a 'dialogue on dialogue' with the initiative Schweizer Dialog itself reflecting on the means applied and views held on establishing and nourishing dialogue on the role of business in society.
