The Social Innovation Summit community is about identifying social and environmental challenges and collectively working on projects and business models to address them.
The 2015 Social Innovation Summit in Zurich, Switzerland took place on the 31st of October at Toni Areal home of the Zurich University of the Arts. Aiming at the advancement of social innovation and entrepreneurship in order to meet pressing social and environmental needs it is the Summit's mission to create awareness on social challenges and inspire people with diverse backgrounds to collaboratively drive innovative endeavors that benefit society in various ways.
The Humanistic Management Center was glad to contribute to this event by leading a session on impact investing that was divided into three parts.
- First we gave a brief introduction to impact investing positioning it within the finance industry and providing some basic information on the motivations and practical implications of impact oriented investments.
- Second the participants were divided into four working groups to assess different aspects of a case example. Looking at a social enterprise tackling food waste, the task was to find the key elements of the value proposition towards its customers, suppliers, investors and investees.
- Third, the individual working groups reported back to the floor before discussing the case and impact investing in general as a building block in addressing the social and environmental challenges we face as a global community.
