Course Conference on Impact Investing
This conference took place on the afternoon of April 24th in Zurich and April 25th in St. Gallen, Switzerland. It marked the end of the course offered at master level at the University of St. Gallen for the first time in the spring semester of 2015.
During the afternoon of the 24th of April the conference commenced at the UBS Conference Center Grünenhof in Zurich. Opening the event the student teams delivered an elevator pitch on each of the 12 investment proposals they had developed in the course. Next, two presentations were delivered:
- Jaume Iglésies of UBS Sustainable Investing presented this specific client offer at UBS. The website on this offer states that: "Considering social and environmental factors into your investment position means incorporating your personal values, the factors which you consider are imperative for a better world which is why we call this investment preference Values-Based Investing."
- The second speaker was Natija Dolic of LGT Venture Philanthropy who presented an overview of the remarkable achievements of LGT Venture Philanthropy to date. LGT Venture Philanthropy states that "Our mission is to improve the quality of life of less advantaged people. To realize our mission, we support organizations with positive social or environmental impact through financing, know-how and access to networks."
On the following day, the 25th of April, the conference continued at the University of St. Gallen welcoming as speaker Angélica Rotondaro and Johannes Boch:
- Angélica is Managing Director of the HSG Latin America Hub in Sao Paulo, Brazil and co-founder of Impact Investing Latin America (IILA) and Johannes is the Platform Coordinator. "The IILA Platform provides a neutral, non-profit oriented platform of research that goes beyond academic circles and that intends to act as catalyst in order to drive Impact Investing from margin to mainstream."
Subsequently a discussion and Q&A session took place with Angélica and Johannes highlighting some of the impressive achievements of the IILA in promoting Impact Investments in Brazil. The event closed with an open format discussion and reflection on the overall course work and learning experience in this course.
