What Makes Organizations Great?
Project Management Institute (PMI) is the world's leading not-for-profit professional membership association for the project, program and portfolio management profession. Founded in 1969, PMI delivers value for more than 2.9 million professionals working in nearly every country in the world through global advocacy, collaboration, education and research.
The Project Management Institute Switzerland Chapter is hosting a series of high caliber events on a range of topics. Part of its mission is to "Foster a community of project management practitioners and organizations in Switzerland to promote professional contacts, share experience and knowledge."
The Humanistic Management Center gladly accepted the invitation to present and discuss the foundations of a human centered management paradigm under the framing question of What Makes Organizations Great?. The main presupposition of this presentation is that the combination of democratic government and market economies has had a hugely liberating and prosperity generating effect in many parts of the world. Simultaneously however, we can increasingly observe the limitations of theories, policies and business practices that are based on the belief that market forces automatically and autonomously deliver desired results.
Thus, the job at hand is to become smarter in using markets and business for creating shared prosperity and societal well being within the natural capacity of our planet. After demonstrating the global context and its relevance for business this presentation provides insights and stimulus for how we can make better use of business for a more equitable and more sustainable planet.
