The Foundations of Humanistic Management
This event marked the first Humanistic Management Conference taking place in Brazil. Having collaborated with Kelly Broliani of IPCC for several years already, January 14th 2016 opened a new chapter for our engagement in Brazil. The conference welcomed participants from government, the non-profit sector and the business community of the four million people strong city of Curitiba in Southern Brazil.
This half day conference took place on the premises of Instituto Pró-Cidadania de Curitiba (IPCC) in the capital of the Brazilian state of Paraná aiming to provide insight into and nourish exchange on the underlying assumptions, main tenets and practical implications of a human centered management paradigm in business. To this end the program was based on the following parts:
- A key note by Ernst von Kimakowitz introducing the two main challenges we face as a global community today - the environmental and the distributional challenge - and what they mean for business today followed by introducing our Three Stepped Approach to Humanistic Management
- A World Café discussing the practical relevance of unconditional respect for human dignity, integrative business ethics and stakeholder engagement on three topical tables.
- A ceremony honoring entrepreneurial initiatives aligned to the principles of humanistic management.
- A panel discussion with Alvaro Borba, Municipal Social Media Director; Marcelo Munaretto, Municipal Supply Agency; Daniel Isfer Zardo, ABIS; Daniel Thá, Kralingen Consultancy; and Ricardo Trento, Unicultura. The Panel was superbly moderated by Kelly Broliani of our host organization IPCC.
The conference ended with a cocktail offered by our hosts to facilitate networking and promote new ties between the various actors. We were very pleased to see a highly engaged group from different sectors working towards a shared goal and embracing Humanistic Management principles as a guiding framework for various public and private initiatives in the greater Curitiba Area.
